i sourced for almost everything here...or self made to get my black and white theme party for Jules
I bought this 1.5m long black and white polka dot cloth from People's park complex and had to cut into half and sew it together cos it wasn't wide enough.

even my drink for the guests were not spared.
i bought soy bean milk (white) for everyone and made real big ice cubes from plastic containers to keep the drink cool.
one of my guests asked where is the black?

haha!
i have chin chow (black grass jelly with white longans)!!!

Jules - 1st Birthday celebration at the Sea Aquarium

Had our lunch at the Malaysia Food Street before heading into the SEA Aquarium.
There's a snack bar right at the entrance of the SEA Aquarium and Iron Chef Cat Cora's Restaurant tucked inside the Aquarium. But today we are not going to have fine dining with Jules.

Yay! the whole place is stroller friendly with ramps - that's why RWS won the universal design award.

At the ticket booth counter. At 12 noon, there's already a line forming. And it's a weekday.
after about 20mins wait, we got our tickets. If you have OCBC or DBS card, you will get 10% discount. If not it's $29 for adults $20 for senior citizen and free for children under the age of 4.
The beginning of the SEA Aquarium shows the trades of the sea.

This is the official entrance of the SEA Aquarium!
Once you stepped through the gantry, on your left is the "Strait of Karimata & Java Sea"
It's quite a view with many fishes in a "shipwreck" environment.
me and Jules, facing the bottom of the shipwreck.

Next journey through what they call " Strait of Malacca and Andaman Sea". There's a Discovery Touch Pool where you can touch the knobbly star fish. So we let Jules have a go and he's very tickled by it!

Next up, we made our way through the "Ocean Journey" and come face-to-cafe with indo-pacific bottlenose dolphins. One of Jules' favourite for the day.

Here's one swimming upside down, something which the dolphins love doing.
Jules enjoyed it so much that he was sucking his thumb and watching the dolphins go by.

Onwards to the "Cold Water" habitats where Jules pouting and pointing to a Spider Crab
Cushion star fishes
Pulsating dances of the translucent sea jelly species.
Lots of lighting going in here like a club.

after visiting all the jellies ,we visited the "Open Ocean" where we saw all the giants of the sea! Like manta rays (black ones), sharks, goliath grouper, saw fish and other small small fishes. Though i think they are actually quite big but because of the giant manta ray and grouper, they seem small  now.
Lots of sunlight beaming in here.

here's a manta ray above Jules and Hubs

into the "South China Sea" where we saw the moray eel habitat, eee. Not my cup of tea. Feels like many snakes swimming under the sea.

Jules' next favourite: Shark Seas! I think he has a preference for really huge fishes. The small ones he does look at them, but the really big ones, he will point and want to follow them!

Jules looking intently at a shark above him

so many sharks swimming in front of Jules!!!!

Jules goes pointing at the sharks.
Jules pointing: Here's one shark. There's another shark. another shark.
So many that he has to use both hands to point.

point. point. point.
after that he was so tired that he skipped his mid lunch and fell asleep in the car.

it gives the pale and flaky pastry skin a whole new level of diversity and meaning!
makes me want to eat not just the filling but the pastry too.

but the funny thing is that these are not meant just for pastry making but to make into edible bowls and plates!!! hahaha...

Stirling HDB Terrace - Our Family Area through the years

here's my doodle on how my family area has changed over the years.

it started off with just a window with a couple of rattan seats from IKEA, a coffee table from MOTTO and an overhang lamp.
click here for 2011 christmas look!

then 3 years later, we had Jules so our study table upstairs shifted down to make way for a cot and diaper changing station.

The following month, we draped our study table over with an IKEA shower curtain and transform it to a party counter for Jules' baby shower and hanged a bunting over it with paper poms poms strung on the overhang lamp with tears as "showers". click here

now, 2013 - another new beginning where Jules started crawling and soon walking, so the study table is gone, a transitional area sits - a playmat and toys.

click here during our sale of our study table before and after.

when i have time i shall compile the past photos and put them side by side...think it will be so fun to see the changes over time.

booth seat dining

vintage metal grill

country style kitchen

feature wall at living

compact master room
it's been awhile since I last updated on our reno@Yishun. They were super elated with the numerous options which we have provided for the dining/living area, master bedroom wardrobe and guestroom! guess the saying of "if you can't convince them, confuse them!" is somewhat true...i guess many options is the best option when you have a client who doesn't know what they want, but when they see something, they know that that is not what they want. (not sure whether you know what i mean here....)

Anyway, they have gone for the walk-in-wardrobe which i think the mistress is super happy about..and thus sacrificing the other room's space, but they still have another room which is left untouched in terms of area wise.

they have also opted for a booth seat dining area with storage underneath the seats, something which i thought was very practical too, since the household shelter isn't going to hold many things. And the kitchen sizes nowadays are pretty small.

So we are going to customise most of the furniture here...and I mean MOST.
there's the built in wardrobe, built in kitchen cabinets, feature tv console and cabinetry, built in shoe cabinet, built in tv feature wall in the master and even the bed they want to customise.

so we are having a feature "floating" bed with in built shelves for charging HP and uplit lighting incorporated into the bed head for their king size bed.

stay tune for more updates!

xoxo

2nd Sunday of May

Mother's day

hubs decided that he wants to cook up a seafood feast for my mother and me - and he wants to cook Seafood Hokkien Mee. Not that we mummies have a craving for hokkien mee, but he wants to cook, which is a good thing too, cos

  1. i miss his cooking
  2. i want to eat at home, tired of eating out 24/7
  3. hey it's mother's day!
saturday night, after Jules went to sleep. Hubs woke up to clean the pork bone and shell the prawns for the soup stock. it took him about an hour to do all the prep work and set the bone and shell into the slow cooker.
that night the whole house smelled of prawn soup!

the next day, our helper was off for the day and i had to look after Jules while hubs went to busy himself in the kitchen.

because he has shelled so many prawns (1 kg) for the soup, he needed to do something with all those prawns. at first he wanted to do a prawn cake for appetiser, but because i wanted to eat portobello mushrooms, so i told him to improvise! And he puts the prawn cake into the mushroom.

12noon: my parents arrived and YEAH!
lunch is about to be served.

i did a simple salad - wafu sauce on top of a garden greens, cherry tomatoes and a chopped orange for some zest.

The portobello prawn cake mushroom was terrific!
and it was huge!!!

my dad thought that was lunch already. so funny when hubs served him a bowl of hokkien mee and dad went "huh??? got somemore ah???"

after our main, we were all quite full so we served a can of nice cool beer.
aaah.

after an hour, we served coffee.

that was my Mother's day this year.

hope yours was just as great as mine!!!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
to all
mummies, grandmummies and great grand mummies!!!!

DIY - Canister Labelling Project

Do you have so many canisters filled with white stuff and sometimes you can't tell what is what?
i know that when my confinement lady was cooking for me, she mistook my white sugar for salt!! but it wasn't her fault because it was placed side by side and both were white.

but after awhile, yah she got used to the position. think it was left sugar, right salt.
hmm.
was it the other way around???
actually I'm not very sure myself too!!!

anyway, here's a quick DIY which i did for my canister project.
I printed the labels on a sticker using my printer.
Sticker was bought from Popular Bookshop.

here's a close up!

Hougang Maisonette - more renders of the new place!

meeting iron lady chef today and we have some more renders to show her for her living, dining, kitchen although we did some the last time we met her.

today's meeting was to discuss more on her master room layout as well as the rest of the 3 toilets - powder room and 2 bathrooms upstairs.

The overall place will have a woody look to give it a warm cozy feel yet still light and refreshing. Plus the scandi look is pretty hip nowadays which i reckon a style that will never go wrong as that's how the Scandinavians have been living yah?

so more wood, more whites, more light please!

ps: next post will feature more about her bathrooms.
