Reno@Toa Payoh (5 Room HDB flat) - FINAL PHOTOS!!!!

Hello there!!!

I've been meaning to post the final photos of our project at Toa Payoh for the longest time but due to the delivery of baby james, we just couldn't arrange a photoshoot after the reno was done. GOSH! come to think about it, the reno has been finished for a solid 2 months now.

So here are the overly dued photos for everyone to see!!! And I must say Cath Kidston Mum has done a pretty good job in keeping her home neat and tidy yet still managed to display her personalised memorabilia from their travels and other knick knacks from their previous shanghai home.

There are loads of pretty pictures which we took on her home but we decided to show a snippets of the more common areas.

here we go!

The main entrance where we kept the original door as it is still in quite good condition. We gave it a good sand down and painted it white. To give a contrast to the space, pattern tiles were used just for the entrance foyer and some people like to call these tiles "peranankan tiles". Others call it the Vietnamese tiles too.

Cath kidston mum found this really cute wall light online which goes quite well with the overall theme colour.
Overview of the main entrance - Beautiful entrance door, patterned tile with a black border around it. To the left is the really cute wall light, to the left is the shoe cabinet and a sitting bench with flushed downlights.

Cath Kidston mum bought a funky coloured wall clock here to add more colours to our usually all white interiors. Hubs says that he loved the clock very much because it's so unique!

Again, we really need to give loads of credit to Cath Kidston mum for her choice of the red lampshades and bar counter chairs. They really do match the pattern tiles and bring an overall "retro" look to the baking area.

Here's a decal which we did for her! Hope she likes it as much as we do.
We thought it was appropriate for Cath Kidston mum who loves to bake!
here's a close up on the decal.

The spick and span kitchen!
Above: The tv console with integrated storage and display cabinet. The tv console was designed to look like it's floating and the curves to the edges brings out a very vintage character to it.
here's another view of the tv console and storage cabinet

overview of the living room with retro looking lounge chair.
The master bedroom has a woody and white look. We kept almost everything consistent from the white doors and wooden door frames down to wood looking flooring.
Above: For the master bedroom, I really love the drop down pendant lamps which Cath Kidston mum had bought from Taobao because of the lovely rose hue, very similar to a tinted bronzy colour. It's so sweet and warm like the evening sun. Actually it reminds me of her as she's always smiling and so motherly!
Above: Both bathrooms are finished in the same manner so here are the photos of the master bathroom only. For the walls, we chose a stoney looking tile with fine horizontal grains.

Here's a look at the shower area with the lovely stoney wall tile.

ritey, I hope everyone enjoyed the photos and do leave your comments!
Happy weekend!

Happy Birthday to ME!

Reno@Kim Keat - The beginning

Hope everyone had a good weekend! Our reno project at Kim Keat has just started its groundbreaking and there's debris everywhere when we got there besides the heavy downpour. The floor hacking permit was approved relatively quick so the contractor hacked all the floors and tore down the built in carpentry. However the wall hacking permit took so long that the reno stalled for a while and now we are back this week to hack the remaining walls down so that the couple will have a walk in wardrobe! YAY!

above: piles of debris in the kitchen

above: master room which we are waiting for the adjoining room's wall to be hack down!

Here's another BTO flat which we are currently doing up for a young couple in Buangkok. The hacking works have already completed which took about 1 day to do only as it was very minor. Now we are in the midst of erecting the walls for the study cum wardrobe room which is adjoining to the master.

The electrician has been here to lay all the loose wirings before the ceiling and carpentry starts to come in. Over the week, we went tile shopping with the couple and selected 2 tiles for the bathrooms and subway tiles for the kitchen backsplash.

stay tune!

Reno@Bishan Maisonette - Tiling works almost completed

Hi there!
A quick recap on the bishan maisonette - belongs to a family of 4 where the dad is into fishes and nature. The balcony will be converted to the dining area yet still maintain an outdoor environment. Here we are using wood tiles for easy maintenance as well as to have that timber looking deck feel.
Above: minor updates on the kitchen, the floor and wall tiles are completed and so is the base for the kitchen cabinet.
Above: For the walls of the balcony, we are using a slightly textured tile to give a very rustic look to the space. Reminds me of those outdoor spa (truly rustic ones) in south east asian countries where the tiles are beige and rough, the masseuse will have you lie on a bed with a cushioned hole to put your face and above you is the ceiling fan that gives out a rustling yet rhythmic sound, putting you to sleep. - THANK GOD good friday is coming...and I'm so going on a vacation!!! opps. i got carried away....back to the reno.

Above: kitchen feature wall -  guess what! usually we will line top and bottom cabinets along all the walls for the kitchen to have ample storage. However for this maisonette, we are not! Here's an empty wall in the kitchen. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this space is going to be transformed!
my dear james. only 1 month old and already visiting sites. I try not to bring him along but it's really difficult to find help. Anyway he's fast asleep in the cradle of his dad's solid arms. See how wide he opened his mouth? haha.

Now our weekend routines is to try to leave our kids with our parents in the morning, whichever side is free to look after the 2 rascals straight after our breakfast cum lunch.
Once we settle the kids, we will rush to all our reno sites and have site meetings there together with contractors, electricians and clients.

Afternoons, we will meet up with our current clients whose reno are undergoing design implementation and sometimes do some site visits which we couldn't make it in the morning slots.

And time flies so fast! weekend is gone already.

enough said. Here are some photo updates on our Toh Yi Maisonette reno.
Enjoy!

 Flooring all completed and protected.
Wall tiles in all the bathrooms completed. Leaving the shower niche to be tiled next.

Electrician will be coming in this week to fix up all the loose wirings. Think he will take at least 1.5 weeks to pull all the cables for the switches, powerpoints and lights.

While the adults are having a meeting in the flat, the kids are having their play outside!
There's Jules peering through a slit hole in the parapet wall of the common corridor. He's the tiniest of the lot as the couple's children are very very tall. Just like the couple.

This year's birthday celebration was spent with my family at a restaurant in Vivocity. It serves coloured Xiao Long Baos. There's another branch at ION which always has a snakingly long queue. Hubs made a reservation and we went into the restaurant in a breeze.

we had a table that overlooks sentosa and the monorail which Jules was so excited about. So went a monorail passes by, he will exclaimed to all of us and we will follow his direction and look out too.

And lucky me, HSBC is having a promo at Paradise Inn. For every $60 spent at the restaurant, the colourful Xiao Long Baos are on the house!!! Which is the only thing on the menu that I want to try!!!

Hi there!

We just got back from our Easter break and here are some pretty pictures of Bali to share with all of you.

Here are my details:
Flight: Jetstar approx $280 return ticket from SG to Denpasar, includes 20kg of check in luggage and choice of seats.
Stay: Tulamben (Northern east of Bali)
Resort: Scuba Seraya Resort
Duration: 4 days includes breakfast. The staff there are very nice and attentive. Food from the menu is generally acceptable, quite a wide variety consisting of indonesian fare and western counterparts.

hubs totally loved their nasi camphur which he ate everyday. ha!
one of our friend totally digged their sambal mata until he suffered from a diarrhoea. I think he had a little too much fiery in his tummy.
As for me, I totally loved their fried tempes!!!

Tulamben is a small fishing village on the north-east coast of Bali and it is among the most popular dive sites on Bali since the wreck of the Liberty, a US Army Transport ship torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in 1942.

The beach is covered with black sand, just like the ones in Lovina.

The Wreak lies in shallow water and the ship rests in 30 metres of water. The highest point of the wreck tops out about 5m from the surface!! So actually it's perfect for snorkelers like me too because everything is lifted off the seabed. The waters were crystal clear in the early morning and I could see many fishes swimming beside me and I even caught sight of a sea turtle who was so huge!!!

amazing.

Stay tune for Bali Day 3!

Bali Day 3 - Lempuyang Temple (Temple of 1000 steps)

It's always nice to start a post with a really nice picture. Don't you think so? Here's a picture of my yummy lunch!
Day 3 started really dark and early as we were going trekking up the hills and visiting 4 temples. Our breakfast was packed the night before by the hotel staff and once we reached the foot of the hill, we ate our breakfast in the rain. The climb was slow and steady. The weather was cool and drizzling. Not the kind that I would have liked because I'm quite paranoid with having rain soaking my head and end up having quite a migraine. But that wasn't the worst that we met that morning. It was the alpha male monkey!!! It bit our guide and drove him worried to bits as 2 locals who were bitten by the monkey had dead from rabies. So it was only 5 mins climb before we reached the top and we had no choice but to turn back down because the monkey kept on following our group. sigh. It took us really long to climb up to where we were...there were a total of thousands of steps. It was quite a grueling trek. Nevertheless, safety is our utmost priority and we head back down to the foot and send our guide to the hospital. We all went back to the resort for lunch and R&R the entire afternoon away while the rest went for their 3rd dive. Had an one hour massage by the pool, which cost me $150,000 rupiah.

it's a 2 hour climb to Lempuyang Temple rising from 1700 steps against gravity. And I must warn you that there are ferocious monkeys who are very territorial about their homes along the way. The steps are of different risers, making some difficult to climb. There are pitstops along the climb for unfit people like me who needs a rest every now and then.

If you start the climb really early like 430am, good to wear long sleeves and pants to keep warm as early morning up the mountains can be quite cold. If you are starting late, then you can forget about keeping warm cos the climb will definitely cause you lots of perspiration.

Bali Day 4 - Off to Ubud!

series of crazy faces.
this is just what we do when we are free.

Day 4

YAY to UBUD!
Although it was a really long journey from Tulamben to Seminyak then to Ubud on the bus. Took our driver 3 hours to get there. Again we met with another hiccup. we were supposed to have lunch at the famous Potato Head but we didn't know that we had to make a reservation. So we were turned down at the gates, they didn't even allow us to make a drive in just to see the architecture. So atas right!!!!

sigh.

so we had lunch at the famous Iku Oka Babi Guling in Ubud. It has 3 franchises now.
We all had the special set (60,000 rupiah!!! price has risen!) and I ordered the avocado juice which is more like a milkshake sweetened with chocolate syrup.

after lunch, we continued our drive down to our resort in Ubud - Greenfields Resort which overlooks the rich paddy fields with ducks waddling up and down.

Check in and it's shopping time!!!

my buys
  1. Uluwatu balinese lace top
  2. rattan clutch bag
  3. incense holder - 3 nos
  4. loose dress in dark blue
  5. 2 tier cake stand
  6. 3 tier pastry stand
  7. 4 bamboo bowls for salads
  8. salt and pepper holders - really cute and neat stuff!
  9. 2 hats - straw and crochet
we stopped at a cafe for a quick pick me up iced cafe latte before we trotted on to Pasar Ubud. Some of the stalls were starting to close. SHUCKS. wanted to buy a painting but the fella quoted us 800,000 rupiah for a 1mx1m painting. Hmm. we didn't know what's its worth and didn't dare to bargain.

Had dinner at the famous Dirty Duck Diner (bebek bengil) and again another disappointment, no more crispy duck!!!

>_<

So after my delicious plate of pork ribs which literally slipped off the bones, much like those made in Tony Romas and Chillies, I walked off my calories with yet another round of ubud's shopping street in the dark. Ubud shops closes really early like 7pm. Since I can't shop no more, I went down to Circle K to buy snacks for the night.

and tmw is back to sg.

so much for my easter break. so fast. so fast.

Hope you had a good break too.

Reno@Kim Keat - Bathroom updates

it's another rainy day at Kim Keat again! and I truly apologize for the harsh photos because it's quite dark here. But the main thing of our visit today is that the wall tiles are up from what we saw last week which was only the plastering works. And the shower alcove wall is erected and waiting to set  for both the common and master bathrooms. The shower area will have a feature wall for both bathrooms and the rest of the bathroom will be finished in a supreme white tile that will make the small bathrooms appear spacious and bright.

Besides the bathroom updates, the kitchen and yard are in the midst of putting on their "foundation" before the real make up!
