Reno@B Maisonette - Accent wall colours
Happy Diwali everyone!!!
There's so much to be updated. Sometimes I think I might just do the final photos and skip all the reno journey because every home has so many things going up through the week!!! Anyway back to our reno and enough of my rantings, basically we have covered quite a bit over the week and all the painting works have been completed and the flat has been cleaned up almost 90%.
One of the sons' room has a full black wall with the other 3 walls in a grey finish while the other son's room has a brick wall, cement screed wall and leaving 2 other walls in grey too.
The master room is mainly in white with one accent wall, the owner has chosen a very earthly toned colour. Soothing to the eye and goes well with either white or warm lighting.

son's room with a solid black wall. Looks damn good. Guess I don't have many clients who dares to go all black for walls!!!

here's how it looks in the daytime!
The whole space looks so bright with the white walls, timber flooring and black framed windows.
We have kept all the existing timber doors and painted them white. Has a new old look to it. Don't you think? Guess I'm an old romantic!!! Hah!

HAPPY DIWALI!!
Hope everyone had a good rested holiday with your loved ones and just 2 more days of work and it's the weekend again!!! So it's considered a short week too.
well we have been busy choosing tiles over Diwali with our young couples....
For our reno at Kim Tian, there's only the bathroom tiles to be chosen and here are the lucky few!!!
A stone looking wall tile which will be laid continuously throughout the entire bathroom, matched with a textured floor tile and anti-slipped wood tiles for the wet shower area.
ok I've posted enough in this short span of time and really need to put the boys to bed now!!

Home@Stirling - Halloween Props
Every year we try to do a gathering of some sorts at home. So this year, after James' 1st month baby shower which was held in March, we are finally having a PARTY!
well not really a party. but a barbeque with colleagues. And Halloween is coming!!! And I'm those peeps who loves a decorated theme party, just gives me a really good excuse to decorate my place again!!! I just love moving things around the house because I get so tired from seeing the same old thing for such a long time. And I'm really excited that after Halloween, Christmas will be here and I get to decorate my home AGAIN!!! wee!!!!
Here's some photos to share with my readers on what we are preparing for tomorrow's BBQ! not the food, but the Halloween props. hah!

DIY Bunting kept from last year's halloween. |
Ghost lamps. Spider webs. Eye balls. Jack O lantern. |
closer look at my cute ghost.
DIY! Made it by myself and super easy. You just need 1 big plastic bag, majority in white colour, place it over your lamp, cut 1 pair of eyes and mouth from felt cloth and stick it onto the plastic bag!!! my pumpkin decor from daiso, DIY printed bats and cut it myself. Quite an easy task.
DIY eyeballs. Super easy to make too. I crushed scrap paper into a ball, scotch taped them to keep the shape intact. Cut round shapes from my felt cloth and stuck them onto the scraped ball and voila, I have my "eyeballs"Can't wait for my early celebrated Halloween BBQ tomorrow!!!

Home@Stirling - Gardening at home
Suffering from Conjunctivitis for a week now, so the doc has ordered me to stay home and not look at the computer. Well, I simply can't sit still at home now can I?
So I've decided to make full use of my afternoon half doing up my garden.
here's my progress so far.
Quite a big progress for me under the hot sun!!! I weeded out almost one quarter of the grass and weeds at the front, took out all the heliconias at the back, cut down all the lalang which was killing my bird nest fern softly. I had to dig so much to get all the weeds out that I ended up with 2 water blisters on my right hand. BUT IT'S SO WORTH IT!!! I feel so accomplished after seeing the results!!!
closer look at the empty patch - see! no more grass or weeds! And i can finally see my garden gnomes and dwarves. Before that they were lost in the greens. And i can finally see a bit of my ixora!! Previously before the weeds were overgrown, my ixora had so many flowers as it's quite a sun loving plant, but then the weeds covered the sunlight and my ixora no longer had that many flowers. Not sure whether you can see it, but there's a tint of red at the right hand side of the photo. That's the only flowers left on my ixora.
Empty patch in front of my bird nest's fern...finally i cleared all the grass and lalang. But my bird nest's fern is almost half botak already.
it's 330pm and I'M CALLING IT A DAY folks!!!
i'm hot and sweaty!!! and I hope i didn't get a burn because I didn't put any sunblock on. Here's how my garden looks now. Not in her best form but definitely neater.
My Canna plant, very similar to Heliconias. So if my heliconias are surviving well here, I'm sure my new Canna plant will do so too!! Frankly speaking my heliconias are growing like weeds.
I'm too tired and blistered to transplant her now. Will have to let hubs do it over the weekend. hah! if we can find any morning to do so...

My cleared out garden! Finally I can see my 3 garden gnomes together. Aren't they cute?
I've transplanted 4 Iris lily. I hope they will survive and flower soon!
Oh in this picture, you can see my ixora red quite clearly!!!
And I've transplanted a rather weak looking Lantana. I saw one of my neighbour's lantana growing like a weed all over the roof and felt that perhaps this might be one plant which I can grow out here too.click here to see how my garden looked like in year 2013!
IT WAS SO FREAKING NEAT!!! and my bird nest fern was so pretty and healthy.
gosh. shame and guilt.

Reno@B Maisonette - Carpentry is here!!!
Yesterday the guys took the whole day to move all the carpentry on site and started to line some along the walls in the kitchen. If not we do not have enough space!!!
Flooring for the bedroom downstairs completed and it matches the parquet platform totally! AWESOME huh!!! See the carpenter has lined up all the cupboard doors along the walls.
For the bathroom upstairs, the water closets are installed already! The left one with the white marble walls is the master while the bathroom on the right with the cement looking wall tiles is the common bath.
All the glazing works have a frosted film stuck on too. Here's the WC for the downstairs bathroom and you can see a little bit of the pattern floor tiles.
stay tune for more updates!!!

Reno@B Maisonette - Carpentry in Progress!!
ho ho! there's carpentry at the doorstep today when we visited the site. Looks yummy the laminate!!!!
Even though we have gone through many times with the carpenter, electrician and contractor, we are still here today because more electrical works are going to be laid whilst the carpenters are working. This is the time where we re-confirm the positions of all the loose wiring that is embedded in the cupboards.
Here's a look at the walk in wardrobe for the bedroom downstairs. WHOA...looks quite luxurious for a small room!!! Keep thinking of the rental yield for this room!!! But no, the owner is not looking at renting the room out. So don't even think about it. hah.
Kitchen carpentry is still in progress - which is of course! because it has the most cupboards and drawers!!!
Master room carpentry in progress too...wall hung tv console up too! The carpenter is fixing the platform bed now, the bedhead is already in placed. Looking good!!!

Reno@Vista Spring - Option studies
i think many of us face this problem where we want to keep all the bedrooms in the flat (be it for future planning or resale value), yet we also want the master bedroom to have a size-able bed (most couples are looking at king size bed), storage, wardrobe, tv and perhaps a vanity area or sometimes i get couples who want a study area.
how to break away from the HDB norm?
This is a very common question which we often ask ourselves too.
but we try!

Reno@Holland Ave - Carpentry in progress
here's a lovely woody shoe cabinet which the owner has chosen a really fine laminate. We wanted to make it lower to be able to use as a seating bench but if we do that then there wouldnt be much storage left for shoes. So now it's really more of a shoe cabinet.
Let's take a look at the master room. Well! there used to be loads of ductworks under the window and now it's all integrated with a study table cum bookshelf.
A small cable management here at the study desk area, using the same laminate as the shoe cabinet.

Vanity. Mirror doors not fixed yet.
Bottom cabinet with swing doors and open shelves.
sneak peak at the kitchen area. It's a woody top and dark grey bottom. A new combo which we are trying out!
that's a quick update this week.

Reno@B Maisonette - Cove lights
Hi there!
TGIF. Here are some photos to share with my readers.
I know that there are some readers out there who were asking for some photos of cove lightings and how much does it illuminate the entire room.
We usually design one whole round the ceiling and here's how it looks in the daytime with cool light. Not white or warm. Just cool light.
It really depends on individuals and how much lighting is required. Usually just watching tv. 2 sides of the room light switched on should be sufficient. For children who are studying, then probably have to go for all 4 sides of the ceiling lights to be switched on to give an overall balanced lighting effect.
For bedside reading, then probably you can use your bedside lamps so that you needn't have to get out of bed to switch off the ceiling lights.
so there you have it!
Hope some of you have benefited from this post. :)

Reno@B Maisonette - Pelmet lighting
Here's another post on lightings.
I do get inquiries about the types of lightings which we use for our homes. To suggest the type of lightings for each home is actually very different because different people have different needs and preferences.
There are certain types of lighting effects which we commonly practice is the pelmet lights.
here's an example of it.
Take for instance at the shower area, together with the downlight, the pelmet light brings a soft glow to the dedicated space and illuminate the shower cubicle. It plays on a different kind of feel to the overall sense while showering. Sounds incredulous but lighting does play a big part in interiors. It will definitely look very different if you use a ceiling light here instead.
it's not rocket science. It's some detailing which needs special attention to.
here's a big pelmet light to showcase to everyone. See how it glows and makes the whole ceiling brighter without an harsh impact on the ceiling.
ritey.
stay tune for more progress updates on our B maisonette!!
Have a good weekend ahead!!!

Reno@B Maisonette - Progress updates
some photos to share with everyone.
Our carpentry works is almost near tail end now, leaving the final last puzzle to our reno journey - the roof. Finally we have gotten approval this week. Or rather we actually had gotten our approval for the new erection of the roof with 10 commandments to fill. BUT! our dear HDB officer did not even know that it was an approval with written directions. SIGH!!!
And to think we even called the HDB officer to ask how and why is our approval taking so long and what else do we need to supplement further!!!
without much ado...
i hereby post some delightful photos of this beautiful maisonette!
Our carpentry is really good at what he does! He even ran the wood grains vertically so that it flows from the bookshelf downwards to the parquet; running vertically from wall to floor.
Love LOVE headboard lights. Has this appealing look and reminds me of some of the hotels which we have stayed before.
